Software that is not trying to hold you
Most chat platforms ship features to move a number on a dashboard. Attention is the product and behaviour is the inventory, and the software gets shaped accordingly — a little louder, a little stickier, every release. Talking to your friends should not need any of that.
Cordice is built on a fork of Stoat, formerly Revolt. It began in 2026 as a way to learn a large codebase properly and became a service worth running: open source from the first commit, no advertising, and no plan that depends on knowing more about you than we need to deliver a message.
It is early. Things are missing and some of them are obvious. What we can promise is that the work happens where you can see it, and that anything we get wrong is fixable by anyone who cares to.
